Sustainability Report 2024
Our commitment to responsible AI development and environmental sustainability
One X Group is proud to publish our inaugural Sustainability Report, documenting our environmental, social, and governance initiatives throughout 2024. As a technology company building AI solutions that impact thousands of users and organizations, we recognize our responsibility to operate sustainably, develop AI responsibly, and contribute positively to the communities we serve. This report provides a transparent accounting of our progress and our commitments for the years ahead.
Environmental Footprint
In 2024, we completed a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment covering our operations across all offices and our cloud computing infrastructure. Our total carbon emissions were 342 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, with cloud computing accounting for approximately 60% of that total. To address this, we have migrated our primary workloads to cloud regions powered by renewable energy and implemented automated scaling policies that reduce idle compute resources by an estimated 40%.
Our offices have transitioned to 100% renewable energy contracts where available, and we have implemented energy-efficient lighting, cooling, and workspace management systems. Business travel - our third largest source of emissions - has been reduced by 30% compared to pre-pandemic levels through our continued investment in high-quality remote collaboration tools and policies.
Sustainability is not a constraint on growth - it is a catalyst for innovation. The discipline required to operate sustainably drives us to build more efficient systems and make more thoughtful decisions.
Responsible AI Practices
As an AI company, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of responsible AI development. In 2024, we established a formal Responsible AI Framework that governs how we design, build, test, and deploy AI systems for our clients. The framework addresses fairness and bias mitigation, transparency and explainability, privacy and data protection, and human oversight and accountability.
Every client engagement now includes a responsible AI assessment conducted during the discovery phase. This assessment evaluates potential risks related to bias, privacy, and societal impact, and produces recommendations that are incorporated into the project plan. We declined three potential engagements in 2024 where we determined that the proposed AI applications posed unacceptable risks of harm.
Social Impact
Our social impact initiatives in 2024 focused on three areas: technology education, workforce development, and community engagement. We delivered over 500 hours of free AI literacy workshops in partnership with community organizations, reaching more than 2,000 participants across Singapore, Australia, and Germany. These workshops introduce fundamental AI concepts to non-technical professionals and help organizations develop informed perspectives on AI adoption.
Our internship and apprenticeship programs provided paid opportunities for 24 early-career professionals, with a particular focus on candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in technology. Sixteen of these participants received full-time offers upon completing their programs, contributing to our goal of building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Governance and Transparency
We strengthened our governance practices in 2024 with the establishment of a Sustainability Advisory Board comprising external experts in environmental science, AI ethics, and corporate governance. The board meets quarterly to review our sustainability performance, challenge our assumptions, and recommend improvements. Their independent perspective ensures that our sustainability commitments translate into meaningful action.
Data privacy and security remain foundational governance priorities. We maintained our ISO 27001 certification, completed SOC 2 Type II audits for our Helix platform, and implemented enhanced data handling procedures that exceed regulatory requirements in all our operating jurisdictions. Zero data breaches or significant security incidents were recorded in 2024.
Commitments for 2025
Looking ahead, we have set ambitious targets for 2025: a 25% reduction in carbon emissions per employee, expansion of our responsible AI framework to include mandatory impact assessments for all projects, and a doubling of our community education program reach. We are also committed to publishing quarterly sustainability updates to maintain transparency and accountability with our stakeholders. We welcome feedback from our community as we continue this important journey.
